Our Mission
  

The mission of Moneta Gardens Improvement, Incorporated (MGI) as a nonprofit community based organization is to commit to, empower and educate individuals and families for a healthy and safe community. We endeavor to acquire, develop, rehabilitate, and manage affordable housing for seniors, special needs, and very low to moderate-income residents; to promote neighborhood revitalization, and stabilization throughout the City of Hawthorne and its surrounding non-incorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

MGI is a small nonprofit organization that was founded in 1995 to address the growing concerns of a portion of the City of Hawthorne called Moneta Gardens. Located in the ethnically diverse City of Hawthorne, Moneta Gardens is a 1.0 square mile community with 70% of the Hawthorne population, estimated at 97,000. The majority of the HSD schools reside in this area with a significant gang presence and high unemployment rate. The health of our community is described by high incidents of asthmatic, obese and diabetic children. It is a daunting task that MGI has taken on for thirteen years, but we are falling short of monetary funds necessary to continue many of the critical projects that have improved the quality of life for many of these children and their families.
