Community Education Program
The MGI Community Education/Adult Education consists of Computer classes,
ESL classes, parenting and life skills workshops that will prevent crisis and
stimulate personal growth.  Provide Health education workshops with focuses
on Asthma, Obesity, Diabetes, and HIV/AIDS Prevention.   


Community Computer Education Classes:

One of MGI’s community programs is the Parent Computer Education Class.
Parents are taught basic computer skills in an 8 week course, meeting one to
two times a week. The goal is to provide parents that have no computer skills
the opportunity to gain valuable technology skills that can be used at work or at
home. At the end of the class session parents are tested and receive a
certificate of completion at a graduation ceremony. Interns assist in teaching
and provide childcare while the parents are in class.

Computer Education Mission Statement: To provide technical skills applicable
and transferable at home and/or in the workplace.

Goal 1: Eliminate Fear of Technology
Goal 2: Learn Transferable Skills
Goal 3: Learn Employable Skills
Goal 4: Participation in Children’s Homework Assignments
Goal 5: Obtain Employment/Volunteer Experience (via with El Camino College
and the South Bay Workforce Investment Board)

Parenting Classes and Life Skill Development Classes

Parent Education Mission Statement:  To provide parenting skills and support
which enhance each family’s ability to enact their rights and responsibilities.

Parent Education Goals:
Goal 1: Learn age appropriate discipline techniques
Goal 2: Learn Healthy Eating/Lifestyles for Pregnant Women and Children
Goal 3: Apply for and utilize healthcare insurance and benefits
Goal 4: Learn and Implement Safety Procedures
Goal 5: Choosing Quality Childcare
Goal 6:  Participation in your child’s learning
Goal 7:  Assisting your child to read


MGI offers weekly parenting classes which cover a wide variety of topics
including:  discipline, school readiness, and health/nutrition. Classes are
conducted by MGI’s Community Programs Specialist and MSW interns from
local colleges. Volunteers will provide childcare for children ages 0-5 while
parents attended the two hour class once per week.
