Intern Training

MGI offers an intern training module for students ranging from bachelor level,
Masters in Social Work, and Law School Students.  The training includes a
copy of the Community Advocate Manual, job shadowing, mentoring, and
weekly group meetings.  Students are welcome to fulfill academic courses,
internships, and work study awards at MGI.

Bachelor and Masters Social Work students obtain generalist practice
experience via one-on-one case management and co-facilitation of parent
education groups.  Social Work students receive the required individual and
group supervision, as well as in-service trainings, mentoring, and process
recording reviews by a Master Level Social Worker (Field Instructor).

Master Social Work Students interested in specializing in Community
Organizing, Administration, and Policy are paired with the executive director
and/or community programs coordinator.  These specialized students can
participate in grant writing, grants research, fundraising, policy research,
administrative responsibilities, community organizing with the Hawthorne
Neighborhood Association, community program planning, and other related
macro projects.

Pre-Law and Law School Students are encouraged to participate in the
Community Advocacy where they meet with clients, conduct legal research,
and educate clients on their rights and responsibilities.
